Crested Butte Wedding Photography | Becklien & Chris
Not every wedding needs a ballroom. Becklien and Chris proved that with about thirty guests, one house in Crested Butte, and a September day with weather that could not have gone better.
The house was full without ever feeling crowded, the kind of scale that lets a wedding stay personal. Everyone fit comfortably, nobody was standing in a hallway waiting for space to open up, and the whole day had the feel of a gathering rather than an event. The foliage had not turned yet, but Crested Butte in September does not need to try very hard. Clear skies, mountain air, and Mount Crested Butte standing over the whole afternoon were more than enough.
The ceremony itself was straightforward and unhurried, exactly the kind of moment a small guest list makes possible. No long processional to manage, no logistics competing with the vows. Just the couple, their closest people, and enough room to actually watch it happen.
What I did not expect was to be invited to dinner with them afterward. It is not something that happens often, and it says a lot about the kind of day Becklien and Chris were building, one where the people documenting it were treated like part of the circle rather than hired help standing at the edges.
Walking back toward their condo after dinner, on the way to the reception, Becklien gave a small, unplanned twirl with the town of Crested Butte and the mountain behind her. It is one of my favorite images from the day: unposed, genuinely happy, and framed by the exact landscape that made the whole wedding feel like it could not have happened anywhere else.
They had booked me for the ceremony, but the day kept giving, so I stayed on for the cake cutting and the dancing that followed. Some of the best images come from the moments nobody planned for on paper.
